| Palma Palace’s History.
|
||||
|
The Origin of the palace, currently under research, is almost lost in the mist of time. It is certainly one of the oldest buildings still standing and in constant use in Portugal. First related documentation
dates from the 13th century, when it became a post of the Holy Order of
Santiago. S.Francis Xavier, while under the protection of D. Pedro de
Mascarenhas (14??-1555), Viceroy of Portuguese India, conducted mass in
the then chapel of the Palace (now our dining-room) and blessed and
christened with his own name the original Arabic fountain that still
supplies the whole village of Palma.
Around
1875, the Palace was re-pointed by the S.Romão side of our family and in 1920, our great grandfather, Dr. José Maria Posser de
Andrade re-pointed it again.
